Design: Branding for Rae by Day

I've been busy working on all sorts of fun new things for Rae by Day! An updated blog design as well as a brand spanking new website are both in the works!

Today I'd like to share the latest and greatest, a pretty logo for Rae by Day! After months of throwing around ideas and contemplating hiring someone else to design it (it's hard designing for yourself!) I finally landed on a logo I love. It's clean, feminine, and fun and I couldn't be happier with it.

Incase you missed it at the top of the blog today, here it is!

I also have a lovely new facebook icon. Yay!

Adventures in Letterpress Printing

Lucky me, I had the chance to hang out with my friend Reka and her Chandler Price Letterpress this past weekend! I've always wondered how much work went into this beautiful old style of printing. As it turns out, it's a very labor-intensive process. Setting your own type is quite a chore, but the end product is just beautiful.

We played around a bit with multiple wooden letter "R's" with one color. Then we did a large wooden letter "R" and "B" layering two colors. It was so much fun and now I have some super cool coasters.

iPhone 5: I've Got You Covered

It's here! My iPhone 5 arrived today and I have to say it's lovely!

Now my biggest challenge will be picking a case. There's a limited selection of iPhone 5 cases on the market right now, but I found a few that piqued my interest. All of these cases are available for the 4G and 4GS too, so don't feel left out if you haven't upgraded.

:: CASES BY CERA ::

Cases by Cera has some really pretty and unique cases. They iPhone 5 versions won't be available until the end of October, but I think they are worth the wait. I'm kind of in love with each and every case they have. Here are a few of my favorites. All of them are under $20!

Creative Inspiration: Ira Glass

Ever get in one of those creative funks that lasts for days?

You know the ones where you just can't seem to be happy with anything you do. You turn into your own worst enemy. You start to think maybe you're just a bad designer. Maybe you only have a certain amount of good ideas in you. You eventually debate giving up, but of course you don't because you love what you do. Still, there is this gap you are trying to fill and you aren't quite sure what the solution is.

It's a struggle, but it happens to the best of us. Trust me, I know. I just went through one.

During that time my wonderful husband shared this little segment with me by Ira Glass from This American Life.  It was just the push I needed to get back on track. If you are feeling this way hopefully it will help you too.

Invitation: Sweet 15 (Quincenaera)

Vanessa is celebrating her Quincenaera, or Sweet 15th Birthday, later this month in Mexico. A quincenaera is similar to a Sweet 16th Birthday here in the states. The biggest difference is that before the celebration there is a Thanksgiving Mass.

Vanessa asked for zebra print and pink to be incorporated into the design of her invitations. With that in mind, I came up with this girly design using a blue zebra stripe and a fresh young font for the birthday girl's name. The invitations were printed on a
pearlescent white card stock and mailed out in pink envelopes.

Day 42: Berry Sweet

Everyone seems to be having babies these days. My sister is one of them. She is pregnant with her third (another little girl) and I am throwing her a shower.I have big plans to make a lot of food, sew up some cute decorations, and to design the invites! So far the invites are the only thing I have finished.

I went with a strawberry and gingham design. What do you think? Are you getting a summer vibe?

I can't wait to get these babies printed! Look for a post covering the whole party in August. I will have lots to share!
